Jessie Murph Grows Big in Music at the Remarkable Age of Just 19 Years Old

Singer songwriter Jessie Murph who is just 19 years old, has been rising to the top after releasing a new single with country music artist Koe Wetzel and announcing her upcoming album that will take on a variety of genres.

Small Town Girl

Jessie Murph is a 19-year-old artist from a small town called Athens in Alabama.  She taught herself how to play the keyboard and the guitar and grew up writing songs in her bedroom.  She was discovered by posting song covers on YouTube and Tiktok, which she says got her to where she is now.

After Murph started gaining a significant amount of popularity on social media, she eventually signed a management deal in 2020 with Adam Alpert and Julie Leff at Disruptor Records.  Following this in 2021, she then signed a record deal with Columbia Records.

After signing this record deal, Murph released her debut single called “Upgrade” in January of 2021 which took on an alternative genre.

Jessie Murph tells ‘Women in Pop’ in an interview that she started doing music when she was as young as 9 or 10 years old and that she always knew that was what she wanted to do.  She even started posting her song covers on the internet as young as 11 years old.

Growing up in a small southern town, Murph appreciates the country music that she grew up on and even takes on the genre in a lot of her music, showing off the southern twang she has in her voice.  However, she also tells ‘Women in Pop’ that she is passionate about both country music and hip-hop music, as well as pop music, which is why we see her take on a mesh of these different genres.  She also tells ABC News that her biggest musical inspirations are Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Drake.

One thing that is striking about Murph is her style, especially in comparison to her presence in country music.  She says in a Billboard interview that in the town where she’s from, people dress really preppy, which is how she used to dress in high school.  But getting older, she says, allowed her to really find her style and allow her to craft the image of herself that she wanted to showcase.

Jessie Murph and Koe Wetzel

Jessie Murph just released a new single with country music artist Koe Wetzel called “High Road” on June 7th.  Wetzel also dropped the single on July 12th with a solo version of him alongside the version featuring Murph.  The version with both artists is also the seventh track on Wetzel’s new album called “9 Lives” that just dropped on July 19th.

Because the duet version was released before Wetzel’s solo version, some fans were initially not too thrilled about the duet between the two, as they strictly wanted to hear Wetzel on his own.  However, Wetzel defended Murph saying that she was a great addition and that the song fits the both of them extremely well.

Shows and Upcoming Album

Jessie Murph will be performing, with one remaining show in July, six shows in August, and one show in September.  She will be performing all over the map in Michigan, Ireland, Belgium, the UK, and Texas.

Murph has also announced her upcoming album that is available to pre-save on both Spotify and Apple Music.  She tells Billboard that the album is “so truly me” and even says that fans will see her rap and belt, while still paying tribute to her country music roots.
