Cookies Fam is adding its 8th brand under the umbrella with Black-led East Coast-based Gumbo. This move will unite two iconic cultural cannabis brands from each coast.
Gumbo has been popping up from New York to everywhere else via its ties to hip-hop culture. Co-founders Karim “Luka Brazi” Butler and Alexis Major are a power couple who work within fashion, culture, and cannabis. Luka Brazi has been a name I’ve been familiar with since his early days with the Dipset crew. Juelz, Cam, and Jim were always shouting him out on records. Gumbo has also been name dropped by a who’s who of hip-hop artists over the last few years from Migos, Dave East, Meek Mill, and countless others. We saw “official” and imitation bags all over New York on our trip to the city for MJ Unpacked earlier this year. Our friends at Urban Aroma told us it was the real deal.
“Uniting Cookies and Gumbo just made sense—we all share the same values when it comes to helping others, producing quality products and expanding our footprint, while still keeping it true to the culture,” said Major, Co-Founder of Gumbo Brands.
The two brands have clearly been working for a while prior to this announcement with their first drop hitting California this month with the Madison Square Gumbo strain. The cultivar is a cross between Cookies & Cream x Secret Weapon and will be available at Cookies and Lemonnade stores across California on November 14th.
Cookies founder Berner mentioned “I’m proud to finally be launching Gumbo on the rec market. I remember seeing Gumbo everywhere—it reminded me of how I popped Cookies off. When I met Luka and his wife, I loved that they were so dedicated to doing this right…We need to keep people from the game, in the game.”
