Miss a bunch of good music this month? Check out @MPyreP’s 5 slaps – June Edition.
It has been a crazy month for myself and being the only hip-hop blogger here at RMR, we have fallen far behind. My inbox is beyond full and my Twitter and FB direct messages have been filled with “is info@respectmyregion.com still where we send music?”
Well yes that is still the inbox, and no I haven’t missed anything sent to me. For our viewers out there I wanted to give you a re-cap of music we were slow to get up this past month and music you may have shouldn’t have missed! These are the top 5 slaps that haven’t been posted for June.
1. Dave B – The Way prod. by Jake One
Seattle’s next big thing, Dave B, sounds too at home over Jake Ones production. Good to see Vitamin D and Jake One in the credits on this one, I truly think Dave B is one of our best representations of ‘Northwest music’ and am excited to see what heights he takes his sound.
2. Brainstorm – Clowns ft. Fearce Vill prod. by Brainstorm x Q Dot
Man, seeing Dyme Def get back together is a sight to see refreshing to hear! Brainstorm has been stepping up the production as of late, has honed in on the sing-song hooks, and this record is the culmination of refining those skills. This hook really goes!
3. LROC – They Shootin ft. Key Calhoun
LROC is still relatively new to my radar but I have only heard good things and the mix tape I picked up at Reallionaires 2k15 Beat Battle was fire. Dude has a great voice and sound for music, a lot different from other artist in the Northwest music scene but his story telling is on point. This is some real vintage hustler hip-hop reborn.
4. Team Back Pack Cypher ft. A-1, Jeff Turner, and Illmaculate prod. by Trox
I am not the hugest cypher/freestyle fan but I know enough to know Portland’s Illmaculate is SOMEBODY in that scene. More like he BODIES that scene. In this Team Back Pack Cypher Illmac shuts down the last verse.
5. Donte Peace – Black Northface
Donte Peace’s people probably think I put his record under my pillow and went to sleep on dude. This is one of my favorite cuts from Donte’s ‘Locals Only’ mix tape he dropped last summer.
