30 Deep Grimeyy never fronts in any of his bars, and he speaks to the street life. People die, either from drugs or guns, and this life can be no fun. When you lose your family you lose a piece of yourself, and that shit doesn’t change. The way Grimeyy sang his track “Emotions” speaks to that experience, and you can hear the pain in his voice.
Even if this is a more melodic track, Grimeyy is right at home. His voice isn’t exactly what you’d expect, but his mastery of rhythm and syncopation makes “Emotions” one of the most exciting songs of his recent project Grimeyy 2 Society. For all of those looking for a rising star that can carry the weight of a life lived hard and restless, Grimeyy is the king.
Sporting a patriotic heater and some local kids, the video for “Emotions” is one which is a touching portrait of STL. Pretty much there ain’t shit there but beautiful people trying to have fun in an environment it’s almost impossible to get out of. Still, Drew the director was able to capture the gorgeousness of the plants which refuse to stop growing in STL. The barbecues in which families breathe life into the city, and the children of the hood who will never stop being one of the most hopeful symbols in our country. Any one of them could change everything.
Lyrically, “Emotions” harkens back to “Rockstar” one of Grimeyy’s first breakout hits. “Rockstar” was similarly emotional, a moment of vulnerability for the absolute threat of a rapper. While the video for “Rockstar” was more introspective, “Emotions” gets the whole block out, and it breathes nothing but love into the setting. Watching Grimeyy rise fills you with a sense of pride.
