What is RSD?
Record Store Day is an annual event that celebrates independent record stores and the culture of vinyl records. It originated in 2007 as a way to support independent record stores facing competition from digital music downloads. Further, the event typically occurs on the third Saturday of April each year. Record Store Day features special vinyl releases, limited editions, and promotional events held exclusively at participating record stores globally. It has grown into a global phenomenon, attracting music lovers and collectors alike to support their local record stores.
This year’s list of limited releases has been made public, and will go live on Saturday, April 20th. RecordStoreDay.com does not sell directly through their website, but instead distributes their stock to participating record stores nationwide. To find a participating store near you, enter your zipcode here.
This year’s releases feature a wide selection of genres and artists, both new and old. Some standout releases we have our eye on include hip-hop and experimental artists such as Gorillaz, ATEEZ, Fetty Wap and 100 Gecs.

Why Buy Records?
In a world of instant-access streaming, free downloads and technologies for discovering new music, you might wonder why anybody would buy records. There are several compelling reasons, but perhaps paramount is that buying records is the most direct way to support artists you love. Buying records provides artists with immediate financial support. Thus, when you purchase a record, the revenue goes directly to the artist, helping to support their livelihood and fund future projects. In contrast, streaming royalties are often distributed through intermediaries such as record labels and music distributors. Further, these avenues usually take a cut before passing on earnings to the artist.
Moreover, besides directly supporting artists, record stores serve as vital hubs for music enthusiasts. They foster a sense of community by preserving music culture. By supporting these establishments, you contribute to the continued existence of physical spaces where music lovers can connect. Record stores often stock a diverse range of music, including rare and obscure releases. Lastly, by browsing through their collections, you have the opportunity to discover hidden gems and expand your musical horizons.
So what are you waiting for? Run, don’t walk to your local record store today. Don’t forget to browse the RSD catalogue, and let us know in the comments which releases you’re most excited for. Happy spinning, RMR fam!
