YoungSmoke is a hip-hop artist out of Spokane, Washington who has been making music since high school. He first splashed onto the scene in 2016 with his hometown anthem “Me, My People, My City,” bringing major nostalgia among those who listen. This track gave Smoke a huge confidence boost, after seeing how many people enjoyed it he realized: “this is something I could actually do.”
Since then, he has maintained and steadily dropped some singles along the way. Most notably his tracks “Writing Again” and “Zoom” are in-your-face energetic tracks that have been fan favorites. But lately, YoungSmoke has dropped some new music that shows a softer side he hasn’t always put out there. What fans love most about YoungSmoke is that, for the most part, you really have to listen to what he’s saying. What may sound like a happy track can actually hold a dark/sadder truth.
YoungSmoke – “Think Twice”
A perfect example of this is his track “Think Twice.” The song could be described as a catchy melodic tune that mixes the best of early 2000s punk rock with modern hip hop flare. From the outside looking in, this track is a fun feel-good vibe with a chorus that sticks with the listener hours after hearing it. But, take a moment to dissect what YoungSmoke is saying. You learn this track is actually about deception and heartbreak. He takes making the “shot” look easy, and moving on to the next immediately after.
Recently, YoungSmoke dropped his newest and most personal song “Better Days.” Originally written 3 years ago after losing a close friend to suicide. “Better Days” is a despondent track that coveys Smokes sadness to the listener. For 3 years it sat in the vault with Smoke saying it just never felt like the right time to release it. That was until recently when he lost his mother. Nothing could prepare anyone for this as it is one of the hardest times in a persons life. But, he felt like he had the perfect way to honor her and released the track and visual.
In loving memory of Miranda Hambrick and Devon Waine Tyler.
