Portland has been a skateboarder paradise since the creation of the world-famous Burnside Skatepark erected in 2000. Fast-forward 20 years and it’s Portland band, Yellow Trash Can, sparking a hilariously fun feud between legends Tony Hawk and Bam Margera. In a video posted on the band’s social media on September 9, Margera makes fun of Hawk’s tambourine skills on their recent single, “Populated”.
Yellow Trash Can consists of multi-instrumentalist Jason Navarrete and animator/designer and songwriter Jitta (On The Track). The two are redefining what it takes to be successful in the music industry. Despite a pandemic, the duo has survived by branching out and hustling beyond their music. They have diversified mediums and use their music to pair with animation, merchandise, and multimedia. The Hawk/Margera feud is the latest in a long line of ideas the two have dreamt up.
“Jitta and I are always looking for new ways to bring people together in a positive way,” said Navarrete. “We couldn’t resist instigating a good-natured online battle between two of our biggest inspirations. They helped pave the way for Yellow Trash Can by showing how someone could be multi-faceted and so much more than ‘just a skater’. Both of them are household names over-and-above their respective sport due to their video games, TV shows, movies, and more.”
