Hip-hop is a genre of many facets and it is without question the most competitive genre of music that exists. One element of rap that consistently flies under the radar is that of the MC battle culture pioneered by URLTV.
Industry beef’s are nothing new. From Biggie & Tupac, to Nas & Jay Z, to Game & 50 Cent, to Drake & Meek Mill – the list goes on. But these back and forth beefs usually only exist on song and this is where industry and battle rap differs.
The hostile environments created from roaring & unforgiving crowds isn’t one that your average listener always gets to experience only listening to the radio. The pushing, the shoving, the in your face smack talk, not to mention top-tier penmanship is something hip-hop heads crave.
Some of the worlds best wordsmiths come from battle rap and there are only a few industry rappers who I think could hold their own in a battle.
The movement has a huge following and it hasn’t stopped growing. So much that the most notable league, URL (Ultimate Rap League) is not the only battle rap league that exists. There are now a number of new leagues looking to build their brand of top battlers.
Of course, the URL is the NBA of all the leagues. This is reflected in the viewership, media production, quality of events and of course quality of battler. Top tier battlers in the URL are now receiving anywhere from $10k-$50k a battle.
Industry rap giants like Eminem, Cassidy, Diddy, Jadakiss and Drake have all paid homage to the battle culture.
With a steady flow of content providing new series, new events, and new competitors, the battle rap culture and URL have no intentions of slowing down.
Stay tuned as RMR brings you more content from the dark side of hip-hop and MC battle culture.
