Ultra Music Festival was founded in 1999. Now, 20 years later the lineup is more bangin’ than ever. Techno, trance, house, progressive, and just about every EDM genre you can think of is bringing the heat this year. Check out these five artists to get you hyped for the three-day event this March.
CamelPhat – Progressive/Techno
The duo, Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala, dates back to 2004. Many may have heard of them due to their break-out single “Cola” back in 2017. The single was a collaboration with Elderbrook and gave them a #3 spot on UK Dance Chart.
Since then the group has released a number of hit singles such as “Panic Room” and “Breathe” (2018). Since signing over to RCA Records in late 2018, they have released “Be Someone” (2019), which is the first single off their upcoming debut album. CamelPhat’s album is said to be coming out in March 2020, at the same time as their appearance at Ultra Music Festival— something to keep in mind.
ANNA – Techno
This is a woman you don’t want to miss. ANNA has been djing since she was 14 at her father’s nightclub in Brazil, and it shows. Her music is undeniably techno, heavy techno at that. “Hidden Beauties,” one of her tracks, stayed at #1 on Beatport’s Techno Chart for four months straight.
If this isn’t an indication of her craft, she was also recognized as one of Mixmag’s DJ’s of the year at the end of 2018 as well as Beatport’s breakout artist of the year at the DJ Mag Top 100 Awards. ANNA’s music is articulate and polished. Her beats roll and the bass is heavy making her a perfect fit for a surreal live set at Ultra Music Festival.
Gorgon City – House/Dance
Gorgon City’s style is much more light-hearted than the artists listed above. Their fruitier dance-like music is perfect if you just want to see a set that’s fun and easy to groove to. Their hit single that came out this year “There For You” is a perfect example of Gorgon City’s style. Melodic vocals mixed with smooth drops that build up and down.
The group is made up of Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, two electronic producers from London. Some other singles to check out by them are “Ready For Your Love” a hit back in 2014 and “Real Life,” an awesome collaboration with Duke Dumont.
Solardo – House
Solardo is another duo you’re definitely not going to want to sleep on. Mark Richards and James Eliot have blurred genre lines. Their music can potentially fall into any category, making their live performances quite unpredictable. The group also has a Beatport’s #1 under their belt along with a slew of other awards.
Solardo was recognized as DJ Mag’s Best Breakthrough DJ’s of 2016, and Best Duo of 2017. The two producers have caught a lot of attention in recent years for cultivating fire remix tracks for other artists like Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, and Carl Cox, who is also performing at Ultra. Check em’ both out!
Tale Of Us – Progressive
Tale Of Us is another incredible duo, not surprising, made up of Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri. They’re both from the U.S, but actually met across the world in Italy where they were both studying music. The two made it on the DJ Mag Top 100 Alternative DJ’s back in 2018 and their music was also featured in Grand Theft Auto that same year.
Tale Of Us has a very unique sound and one that is hard to pin down genre-wise. Some of their songs consist of sulky drowning lyrics and methodical repetitive beats. Some are purely instrumental and sound almost techno or downright trance. This disillusion makes for a very interesting live set.
This is just five out of many artists. When it comes to festivals and live sets, a lot can happen out of range of what we normally hear from their studio work. With this, keep an open mind and enjoy Ultra Musc Festival, live music is one of life’s greatest gifts and this is one of the biggest festivals in the world.
