When you’re born into an environment that breeds nothing but negativity it can be difficult to live in a positive manner. Atlanta-based rapper Don Datta has spent his life trying to escape from the trouble that surrounded him early on. Now, he’s in a position to give back and is inviting Seattle to help him make a change. Join Don Datta on Saturday July 31st for a rooftop party and charity event for the Youth Haven shelter in Kirkland, operated by the long-time-running Friends of Youth organization.

Atlanta-Based Rapper TRS Don Datta
In a conversation over the phone, I asked Don about his back story. He told me that while growing up he knew his hometown of Mobile, Alabama wasn’t having a positive influence on his life. Although he comes from a family big on love, it crumbled because of the environment they were in. Don’s determination and work ethic took him many different places outside Alabama. Putting him around many different people who have influenced his outlook on life for the better.
One of those places was Seattle. Don Datta expressed how much the city meant to him. Without his experiences there he wouldn’t be who he is today. He reflected on everything, telling me that he believes certain circumstances can connect the right people to each other at the right time. Sometimes changing your entire path in life in an instant.

Don told me his number one goal in life is to change the world. He said it’s very important to him that he makes a change. No matter how big or small the gesture, one person can create a ripple that affects the whole world. Don Datta wants to do this by giving back to the communities that gave so much to him when he needed it.
On Saturday, July 31st, the official Don Datta rooftop party with DJ Famous will be taking place at the Sky Lounge in the Central District. He is bringing out two hibachi chefs to serve food all night and will have a bar inside and outside. All the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Youth Haven Shelter in Kirkland. As well, Don Datta will be raffling off ten pairs of Nike Air Jordan’s. With one lucky raffle winner will get $1,000 dollars cash money.
One of the last things that Don said to me over the phone was, “Ain’t nothing better than seeing a smile.” I truly believe this event, and the message behind it, will make a lot of people smile. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
