Word Around the Sound is… Travis Thompson is too sick with it on his latest single, “Vomit” featuring Bay Area’s rising star P-Lo. The high energy track sees rapid fire bars from Travis detailing how he came up out the forest with a lot of trees and green on him. Crispy hi-hats and earthy bass lines dominate the Nima Skeemz production, providing the perfect backdrop for both Travis and P-Lo’s unique swagger to flourish.
Wednesday, June 5: Travis Thompson’s My Wonderful, Horrible, Tour will close out with a hometown show at the Crocodile featuring Yonny, an upcoming artist from Seattle. Tickets are on sale now starting at $25. The show is all ages with doors opening at 8pm.
Travis Thompson featuring P-Lo – “Vomit”
Khris P – Khrispiano Ronaldo 2
Khris P has released his latest album Khrispiano Ronaldo 2 as a follow up to his 2022 release of the same name. His innovative approach to rapping shines on the project with catchy hooks and humorous one-liners throughout. Stand out tracks, for me, include “LOSERVILLE!” which features a verse from BIG Jone$, “NEVER GO 2 LAS VEGAS,” “NO BS,” and “BRAIDS!” Although, this is a prime example of an album that is all gas, no brakes meaning that there are no skips, and you can listen easily from start to finish.
Oblé Reed – “2O”
Oblé Reed was 2-O, doing 105 in a 45, 27 club, he was really just trying to stay alive. In his latest release, “2O,” Oblé reflects on how the pressures of the world can affect the perception of a young man in today’s society. He explores how the weight of time passing can crush your hopes and dreams if you don’t find the right mindset to get ahead of it. The stunning music video directed by Nash Pearson captures the energy of the young and broke as hell doing reckless things around the city late at night.
Bvmmer – “Livin’ the Dream”
Light-hearted, flowing with the breeze, and “Livin’ the Dream,” are all ways to describe Bvmmer’s latest single. His sunshiny, frolic through a field, alternative blend of pop music has a very uplifting feeling to it. In “Livin’ the Dream,” he talks about how even though everything around you may be falling apart, all that matters at the end of the day is having that person by your side to endure all of life’s problems with.
Wynne – “Dirt”
After several ferocious releases, Wynne has changed the tone and delivered a beautiful poem in her latest release “Dirt.” This more emotional side is endearing because although we feel her vulnerability, there is a strength to her lyrics and delivery that reminds us that she’s constantly raising the bar. The video also dials it back from her usual cleverly shot multi-scene approach to give us one scenario for her to tell her story from which really allows the lyrics to shine.
Don Dishes – “24”
Since the year is 2024, Don Dishes had to pay respect to one of the greatest athletes in Seattle sports history, mister “24” himself, Ken Griffey Jr. In his latest single, he talks about how seeing The Kid play on the field was so inspiring because not only was he a super-human, but he looked like him too. Throughout the quick track, Don Dishes flows across the beat as smooth as the Swingman himself at bat.
LIVt – “Pretty Girls Deserve the Sun” Music Video
Towards the end of 2023, LIVt released her EP I Just Want My Bitches To Fly. Featured on the album was “Pretty Girls Deserve the Sun,” a beautiful track that champions for women altogether. LIVt recently released a stunning music video for the song which focuses on a Black woman struggling with love and friendship, while also trying to navigate the difficulty of wanting to save others and herself.
HNY – “Interstellar”
HNY [pronounced: Henny, stands for: How & Why] released a new single titled “Interstellar” that sounds as if you have floated on up into the cosmos. Her airy, ethereal vocals seem to envelop you as her hypnotizing melodies send you into a trance. It has a soothing, lullaby quality to it that lowers my heart rate and makes me feel at peace with the here and now.
Yohiness – “Thunderchief” music video
Federal Way legend Yohiness pays respect to the city that raised him in his latest music video release “Thunderchief.” With visuals to match, Yo gives us a glimpse into what it was like growing up in the Fed, reminiscing on how it used to be and discusses the effect that gentrification has had on the community. He linked up with Yung Tada to shoot a music video that ties it all together into a beautiful homage to the city.
Milc – “Just One More Time”
When Milc and Televangel link, I know it’s about to be something tasty. This new single from them, “Just One More Time,” gives us a bit of a softer side of Leché who reminisces on the days and people who have passed. The production from Televangel gives me a feeling that we’re standing in the back of a dimly lit cave with stalactites and water dripping from the ceiling. Bringing these two elements together makes for an emotional song that truly weighed heavy in my heart by the end of it. I’m used to Milc talking shit with off the wall references and crazy wordplay, which is great, but this one here has a different kind of glimmer to it.
