Shit was lit last night at the Crocodile as all three bands in the night’s lineup rocked the stage. Coming all the way from Nashville, TN, Roots of a Rebellion kicked things off with their first set ever in the Pacific Northwest! As the bassist, Adam Quellhorst, bounced around on stage and trumpet player, Justin A. Smith, bought smooth melodies, ROAR really set the tone for the night. This was the first night of their west coast tour to where they will be playing seventeen shows through Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and California. They just released their new album, Shapes Of A Soul, and it’s fire! It’s available on all music platforms so make sure to download your copy.
The ladies went nuts when Tribal Theory took the stage! These super cool dudes made sure to spend some time with their fans before their set and its always awesome to see artists giving back. They held it down, playing their hit songs and even threw in a N’SYNC cover to shake things up. Bassist, Rudy Duenas, played with attitude and charisma. During one song, singer Niko Tuilesu, gently grabbed the phone from a female fan who was recording their performance and started to perform with it. A heartwarming gesture that would leave a memory to last a lifetime.
I had a chance to meet up with Through The Roots before the night began to ask them what fans could expect on their new album, Arrival, which drops June 7th. Keyboardist, Brady O’Rear says “Its absolute fire and that every song on the album is like my babies”. This shows how much passion these guys have for music and the effort they put into each track. When I asked the guitarist, Corrick Watson, what song stands out the most to him, he said, “‘Such A Shame’ because it deals with the times, millennial let down, and it has a very updated sound”.
Through The Roots took the stage in the midst of fog and lights, opening up with hit song “Bloodshot Eyes”. Their energetic performance continued as Watson and bassist, Budda Foster, worked the stage while playing their stringed instruments. Lead singer, Evan Hawkins, was captivating while he sang his heart out throughout the show. TTR also played multiple songs of the new album
The Crocodile is a legendary venue who’s known for bringing great music to the city. This was my first time here and the hype certainly lived up to its name. I appreciate all of the bands for making their way up to the Evergreen state and joining forces for one show.
