The quarantine has been making a lot of companies jump headfirst into hosting wide-scale virtual concerts. We’ve seen electronic fests like Ultra take a virtual route for a recent event. Trap Nation just threw their Room Service cyber fest. In this same vein, TikTok just made the announcement of its first cross-reality experience. The Weeknd will be providing a spectacular evening of entertainment on August 7th. The Weeknd Experience is going to be a totally immersive virtual event via a TikTok Livestream. It will begin at 8:30 pm ET on various official @TikTok accounts.
In celebration of his Number 1 album After Hours, fans will be taken on an interactive at-home journey through the album. Abel will be throwing down hits from the extremely successful album that’s spawned well over 1.5 million TikToks that have amassed tens of millions of views. There’s even a #BlindingLightsChallenge that you can search for on the platform. Even better, the whole virtual event will serve as a fundraiser for the Equal Justice Initiative.
TikTok is matching funds for any fans that donate to the Equal Justice Initiative up to a very generous amount according to Billboard. The EJI fights to end mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the U.S. They’re committed to challenging racial and economic justice, as well as protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable groups in the United States. Learn more about EJI’s efforts by visiting their website and perusing their reading materials.
There’s a new merch capsule release that will also be accompanying the event for the short period of August 6-10. TikTok is matching the proceeds from The Weeknd Experience merch sold to also donate to the Equal Justice Initiative. RSVP below and get comfy at the crib next Friday for the first-ever TikTok virtual concert experience.
