The Movement released their highly anticipated album Ways of the World last Friday. Originating in Columbia, South Carolina, the band best describes their sound as alternative reggae that has a rock-hip hop edge to it. Coming off their performance at the Cali Roots Festival 2019, they feature many fellow powerhouse artists on this album like; Iya Terra, Stick Figure, Jacob Hemphill from SOJA, and Chali 2Na, & Jurassic 5.
The Movement uses heavy drum and bass which is infused with keyboards that brings a psychedelic element. Songs like “Honey,” and “Loud Enough,” are great examples of this. I love how great Matt Goodwin is on the keyboards throughout album. He has almost a Pink Floyd feel to the way he plays.
They slow things down for ladies featuring Hemphill on the track “Diamond.” This track as an old school island love song, I love it! Other songs that really stood out for me are “Redwoodz” and “Siren,” but none more than “Break the Glass” featuring Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 who absolutely sets the track on fire with his conscious lyrics.
Wrapping things up with a song that will give you chills, “Remember (The Return)”. Again, Goodwin embraces the track giving it a dark tone resembling Nine Inch Nails. A very powerful album!
Listen to Ways Of The World
From top to bottom, not a bad track on Ways of the Worldwith many really good ones. You won’t hear many guitar solos but each track is arranged beautifully. What I like the most about this album is how well they utilize the keyboards for a futuristic sound that will ironically take you back in time. They are currently touring the east side of the states to promote their latest drop.
