If you find yourself asking: should I go see N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton?
The answer should be: HELL YES
First off, thanks to our friends over at Janet Wainwright Public Relations the RMR crew got to check out the N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton Movie at the advanced screening on Tuesday.
The movie was awesome and may be at the top spot for favorite movie of the summer (also got Entourage and Jurassic World up there). Early on they used some incredibly cinematic shots to introduce viewers to Compton, painting the suburban area as a ghetto tucked into a beautiful paradise. The story really captivates the hunger N.W.A. had early on that helped propel them to success. The film shows the inspiration behind and making of their many classic group and solo records as well as the building and destruction of relationships. Im not going to get into details on the story line as I believe you should watch the movie and enjoy the film’s momentum (or you can go Wikipedia the story behind the iconic rap group).
I am always weary of movies based on music as I produce music myself. I know it is difficult to showcase the music making process in a quick manner. This movie did some justice with the in-studio scenes, not perfect but didn’t leave me with any sort of ill feeling towards the way the process was portrayed (it wasn’t like Empire’s music scenes!).
VERDICT: Go see this one!
Also don’t sleep on the new Dr. Dre album Compton! I’ve had that in rotation all week and while it lacks a timeless Dr. Dre classic single, it still has some great records and that un matched signature Dre sonic quality.
