Jaleel White, aka Steve Urkel from Family Matters, is staking his claim in the Cannabis industry. White’s new brand, ItsPurpl, is a collaboration with 710 Labs and features variants of the legendary Purple Urkle cannabis strain.
White has a fascination with purple weed and wants to corner that segment of the market. Jaleel was recently quoted in a Forbes article stating “The thing that always stood out to me was there no clear brand leader for fire purple weed. It made no sense to me, that no company of significance had claimed this lane, so why not me?”
In a world where celebrity weed is incredibly hit or miss, this collaboration seems to be a grand slam. Urkel fans are all over the age of 21 and the nostalgia this product brings will command attention off the shelf. With 710 Labs leading the product development, there is high chance that the cannabis will be of the highest quality.
Jaleel had claimed that friends have been sending him photos of unauthorized products that have used his face on packaging over the last half-decade as a joke. While the strain Purple Urkle has existed for some time, now the real Urkel is cashing in on his own likeliness. You can’t be mad at that!
The star’s new line, ItsPurpl debuts on 4/20 and is limited to select California dispensaries. I feel comfortable speaking on behalf of Pennsylvania users that we’d love if some Purple Urkle came to our dispensaries too.

Social media fans and readers have been mildly shocked to learn that Jaleel White, aka Urkel, is such an avid smoker. You might be even more shocked and confused as to how he came into this business venture and entered the cannabis industry in the first place.
It’s pretty simple actually. White bonded with a passenger next to him on a flight over their mutual love of cannabis, that passenger was none other than 710 Labs founder Brad Melshenker.
Their venture didn’t begin right then and there though, it was only after years of friendship that they decided to do a project together. Melshenker states that 710 Labs doesn’t typically pursue celebrity endorsements or brand deals, but in this case his partnership with White just happened organically.
The spark that lit the fire under this project was White’s hunt for the real Purple Urkle from the early 2000s. A noble venture, his quest turned into a search for the best cultivators of purple weed. After some years, he ultimately he developed a seed collection of his own.
The series of various Purple Urkle strains will be sold as flower eighths, vape pens with 710 Labs’ proprietary live resin pods, as well as Noodle Doinks. These Noodle Doinks are fat, hand-rolled joints that use a fusilli noodle as the crutch.
“I feel a little bit like Willy Wonka, the flavor came out so similar to grape candy” says White.
It’s obvious White and 710 Labs put a ton of focus into the packaging. The ItsPurpl products show an ombre-purple Steve Urkel on black packaging. A limited-edition series of merchandise that includes a waffle maker, will also be available. People can sign up for product alerts through the ItsPurpl website.
White is protective of the Urkel name, shady businessmen approach him regularly trying to use Urkel in various exploitative ways, all more focused on money than the legacy. Steve Urkel doesn’t go into business with just anybody. Neither does 710 Labs. They both put the product first, which is why this feels like a real purple weed smoker’s dream.
