Phace, Eptic, Marshmello, and AKOV Among Artists Included In Weekly Update Of Respect My Region’s Official ‘Fresh Drops’ Spotify Playlist

The Respect My Region Fresh Drops playlist is our curated electronic dance music playlist. This week we’re back again with numerous additions including five specific tracks that I personally enjoyed and contributed to the playlist. I strongly suggest you check out each of the songs below and make sure to follow the official ‘Fresh Drops’ playlist at the bottom of this post.

Fresh Drops Spotify Playlist Update

Phace, Affe Maria – PLAISIR PLAISIR [Drum and Bass]

We’ve got some good DnB tracks for you this week, and Phace’s new single PLAISIR PLAISIR takes the cake when it comes to jungle vibes. This track is fairly mellow for DnB, but the beat and tempo are unmistakable.

Phace (real name Florian Harres) is no stranger to this style of EDM. In fact, he revels in it. This Hamburg DJ has been pumping out bassy tracks to what is now over 100K Spotify listeners since 2003.

Daniel Karelly (aka Affe Maria) is an Austrian artist from Berlin. He’s much newer to the scene by comparison, with a debut dubstep album in 2014. The two collaborated very nicely to bring a chill yet high-energy single.

AKOV – The Itch [DnB/Neurofunk]

AKOV is a beast, no pun intended. Clad in a bear helmet reminiscent of BTSM design, German DnB specialist Alexander Ushakov has been building his discography since 2014. His newest EP Ensnared features a collab track with Screamarts, and every track absolutely goes in.

The artwork, notably depicting a feral, afflicted bear-like creature, also includes graphics referencing the SCP Foundation. Dark, deadpan aggression signifies this EP’s atmosphere. Definitely worth a listen on its own, though The Itch earned its place on EDM Fresh Drops for sure.

Ghostek, Kercha – Avalanche [Dub]

You’d best not be listening to this one on your phone speaker. Ghostek and Kercha have gone back to dubstep’s roots in their EP Ghetto Jazz. Throbbing, warped bass patterns with intricate drum patterns make Avalanche and the subsequent tracks a great option for working, reading and/or smoking.

Both of these names are not particularly notorious in the US. Kercha and Ghostek hail from Russia, and neither have been publicly active for more than a decade. This departure from the mainstream is evidence that they aren’t pumping out brostep, they’re making real OG dubstep, and we love to see it on our EDM Fresh Drops playlist.

Daisy Mortem – Étoiles (feat. Metaroom) [Happy Hardcore/Gabber]

This one definitely scratches a new part of your brain. Daisy Mortem is a typically dark-toned cyber goth French duo, but this track sounds like a nanobii remix. This song wouldn’t even be in the Fresh Drops playlist, in fact, if it weren’t for Metaroom’s magic touch.

Metaroom, aka Freddi, is a new Californian DJ who has been pumping out hardcore and breakbeat derivative music since 2019. According to Spotify, “[his] writing process: squish as many ideas as possible into a song, and hope it ends up listenable!” He is also one of two members of Nothing World.

Étoiles, meaning “Stars” in French, is a very peculiar mix with killer drops. Metaroom’s sound is very similar to neo-Japanese electronic contemporary, but with a furious, grinning twist. Definitely worth checking out his other tracks if you are a fan of fast-paced, complex beats.

Marshmello, Eptic – Hitta (feat. Juicy J) [Brostep]

I don’t even need to introduce Eptic and Marshmello, do I? These guys are the brostep big cheese, and Hitta meets those expectations flawlessly.  The music video that premiered on the 4th features Juicy J performing while boxers in a fight club beat the crap out of each other.

Juicy J has studio albums dating back to 2002, but has made appearances on mixtapes as early as 1998. He’s got some decent bars in this track, but if you want to hear what he’s really about right now check out THE HUSTLE CONTINUES.

Once again, our EDM Fresh Drops playlist is updated weekly and always contains new music from new artists.
