Dallas-based rapper Spaceman Zack brings the struggles of addiction to the forefront with his latest video for “Drugs In The Rain.” The cinematic visuals directed by T. Aubrey are just about six and a half minutes long. To some, this may seem drawn out. But, the story development and extra context are well worth it when it comes to the overall listening experience.
“Drugs In The Rain” is a story of addiction, heartbreak, and how when the two get mixed together it can create a disastrous end result. The video starts with Zack driving up to a seedy-looking motel. You’ll quickly realize what he’s there for as one of the first things noticed is the state of despair he seems to be in. He only seems to be brought to a still after getting his fix and falling into a translucid reality. This is when the video hits its crescendo with the official track beginning around the 3:39 minute marker.
The beat is aggressive with a sultry guitar rift over top but is loosened up by some piano beautiful high keys. This combination closely resembles the relationship story being told in this song. The story of two opposites that maybe shouldn’t be together but, in whatever case, are. Spaceman Zack tells us to create something beautiful even when you’re in a dark place.
