RELEASE THE KRAKEN! It’s official! It has been roughly 20 months since the NHL announced the expansion of an official hockey team to the PNW. The Seattle Kraken will be playing as the 32nd team during the 2021-22 season, with talks of an expansion draft taking place next summer.
The announcement took place via video release with CEO and Team President Tod Leiweke flying the team’s logo stating “I think this name embodies a connection with the sea and a curiosity of what lies beneath it. It’s a natural tie to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.”
Key Arena will always be missed but Seattle Center will be getting new life with “Climate Pledge Arena” towering in the shadows of the Space Needle which will hold roughly 17,500 fans.
This is great news not only for NHL fans across the Pacific Northwest but also for the ever-so-patient Sonics fans. This could possibly open up the doors for Seattle to have more clout to bring back our beloved Seattle SuperSonics. This is a huge opportunity for the City of Seattle! This will show ownership groups around the country as well as the city council that we are serious about the return of the NBA. Slow-motion is better than no motion but for now…let’s get it Kraken!!!!
