Imagine gaining access to a full set of digital media after buying legal cannabis and scanning a QR code on the package. After you buy some weed, you get a digital comic book, soundtrack, and web series to enjoy while you’re high. This is what Tj Walker wants to give cannabis users, new ways to enjoy the influence of their favorite recreational drug while simultaneously using it as a storytelling device in Green Fiction.
Tj Walker is a comic book creator from Tacoma creating a new series called Green Fiction. This interactive anthology series utilizes 360-degree storytelling to give consumers several ways to explore stories filled with cannabis, science fiction, horror, action, and superhumans.
Walker’s first visit to a recreational cannabis dispensary sparked his initial idea. “What if a movie like Friday or Pineapple Express had the opportunity to use cannabis as product placement?” Walker asked himself. This idea grew and was enveloped by his love of “science fiction and superpower stuff” to become a cannabis-infused anthology that’s reminiscent of hit shows like the Twilight Zone or American Horror Story. Every episode follows a single cannabis strain gifting its users’ various superhuman abilities used to fight crime, commit evil and everything in between. Walker’s universe will explore cannabis use in darker fictional scenarios as well as explore the real-life healing properties and benefits cannabis users experience.
Episode one is titled “Supreme” and follows a band of corrupt cops on the tail of armed and dangerous cartel narcos. The season premiere has Training Day vibes if it were infused with cannabis and set in a comic book. Each episode will tell a stand-alone story in an interconnected cinematic universe.
360-degree storytelling is how Walker deploys his properties over multiple mediums. You can experience Green Fiction through its web series, digital comic book, and soundtrack. Each of these will be accessible through a smartphone app. The smartphone app will be available in July 2020 and will also come with original content. Walker will drop episode one, “Supreme,” in October” so he can take it on tour to comic book conventions, film festivals, and cannabis conventions like Lemon Haze.
This Is Your Chance To Get Involved With Green Fiction
Walker is currently looking to partner with cannabis brands to grow the cannabis strains for the first episode “Supreme” and the rest of season one. This kind of partnership gives cannabis cultivators a unique opportunity for branding and product placement in the digital space. He is also looking to tap in with pacific northwest artists to collaborate with for the soundtrack. Walker believes the local talent pool is perfect to bring Green Fiction’s audible world to life.
