Pacific Northwest hip-hop artist Roy Oro has dropped the first track of his summer 2018 campaign titled “Judgment”, a track that challenges the boundaries of hip-hop, and showcases many ways that the genre itself can be heard. The track “Judgment”, written and composed by Oro himself, demonstrates his creative and genre-breaking vision within his music.
At the beginning of “Judgment”, the track sounds like it carries a hip-hop/R&B vibe with punk undertones. But as it progresses, the track adds in a rock/world sound, and eventually ends in an intense, emotionally-charged punk-metal ending. While it might seem crazy to think that all of these styles can co-exist on one track, the transitions and flow are seamless – thanks to the mixing and mastering production of Seattle producer Qreepz.
It’s apparent through his complex message that Oro has many stories to tell in his music, and feels strongly about how to tell them. With his clever (yet, at times, dark) lyrics, his words strike a nerve for their realism. Oro believes that the “Seattle and the greater NorthWest Hip-Hop scene is on the cutting edge”, and he clearly shows that he is looking to add to both to the creativity and the development of the Seattle hip-hop scene based on the unique sound heard on his track “Judgment”.
