If there is one thing this pandemic has shown us, it’s how incredible the EDM community is. Since the utter collapse of the world as we know it into a disheveled series of shutdowns and quarantine regulations, virtual festivals are here. New festivals have even been created purely to be held virtually and help raise emergency funds. Room Service was a festival that took place April 24-26 featuring artists such as Rezz, SNBRN, and Big Wild. All donations went to partners that are helping those suffering due to COVID-19.
Some of the at-home performances for Room Service are incredible. If you search “Room Service Festival” on YouTube you’re sure to find a crazy amount of dope sets to view from your favorite artists such as Zed’s Dead, Lane 8, and Loud Luxury.
Not to bash on fellow music genres, these are very weird, uncomfortable times and it isn’t expected all artists put themselves out there. What I’m saying is the EDM community has been exceptional. There are live streams happening every day from artists around the world. DJ’s are going out of their way to create an atmosphere even through a TV.
David Guetta just last weekend rented out the entire famous Miami club, LIV, for EDC virtual Rave-A-Thon. Destruco recently released a twelve hour stream featuring artists like Bob Moses and Boys Noize. It’s the efforts like these that are keeping Rave Fam community connected.
There is constant gossip surrounding the EDM community. Many believe the culture to be centered around drugs, skimpy clothing, and whatever PLUR is. This is true in some cases. What is more true is the intimacy of the community. The connection to the music alongside one another, and it shows. COVID-19 has tested all relationships, but I think it’s safe to safe the Ravers are killing it.
