Many festivals are held on beaches, but surely none are as vast as the one RFM SOMNII music festival in Portugal calls home. The beach is 33km long and boasts beautiful white sands with clear blue waters. The mega mainstage is built right on the sand. Of course, the whole show is held in the open air with the warm sun beating down.
The headliners range from hip-hop act, the sleek Tyga to reggaeton stars like Ozuna, who both appeared at the festival. It was a first for it to venture away from EDM and it really impressed the packed-out crowd. Alesso, DJ Snake, and Afrojack all brought plenty of future house, progressive sounds and main room styles that really electrified the beach.
The main stage takes your breath away. All-new for 2019 it is a giant structure with mega screens, lights, and visuals. As well as huge stacks of speakers hanging down. It changes the mood of the event with each new visual and evolves as day turns to night. Rich & Mendes, festival residents, closed down the mainstage each night and it was a sight and sound to behold.

Next to the great light and sound, Portugal is very affordable compared to many places in Europe. So food and drink flow freely all weekend. You can also enjoy various activities throughout the festival on the beach which all add to the experience, a true party-goers paradise!
This year as well as all the main action, the offerings were expanded with special after-parties held within the local town. Local clubs and a casino all hosted events and word has spread that this is certainly something the team wishes to expand on for future editions. They will grow even more with talks and conferences possibly planned; very reminiscent of the ADE style we have been so used to over the years.
All in all, RFM SOMNII is a mega experience on a huge scale – the stage, the light, the sound, the beach are all awe-inspiring. Add in a friendly crowd and world-class lineup and you have an absolute must-visit festival.
