We’ve been featuring the Pacific Northwest rap community for over a decade now. Constantly sifting through thousands of songs and videos to seek out the fire from local artists. This week we’re back with some dope new music from a few of our favorite up and coming Seattle, Tacoma, and PNW artists. Grab your best weed and roll that $hit up because these tracks from Mafi D, Blake Anthony, FLAV, TBU Quanny, and other artists we’ve curated for you are going to take you way up!
Dnyse at the CityScape Sessions
Dnyse kicks things off on this week’s list with a brief clip from her outdoor performance for the CityScape Sessions shot by Ivan Shoots. Featuring beautiful vocals, a classic R&B-style beat and the Seattle skyline, this clip is definitely worth checking out now and following back up on when the full video drops. I haven’t checked out the rest of her music yet, but you can bet I’ll be on the lookout for future releases.
FLAV “Press Me”
FLAV is another relatively unknown “local” artist coming out of the PNW who I recently discovered through accounts sharing his music on Instagram. Shoutout the people who share dope music in a way that finesses the algorithm and still shows it to people. Anyways, this “Press Me” track is a straight up West Coast bop that comes dipped and dripped to the fullest. The beat is a vibe meant to ride or dance to. The hook and chorus 100% do their job of drawing you in and keeping you rockin’ along. His actual lyrics and bars were quality, funny, and hard. I plan on keeping this song on our PNW Rising Spotify playlist for some time.
LAZĀ “OpenTil2”
LAZĀ is a regular on the RMR site because frankly, she’s super MFN dope. The music that homie releases tend to be a wonderful blend of well-written and well-produced music paired with a confidence, swag, and unique sound that only LAZĀ could cook up. Every time I listen to her creations, I am reminded that at any moment, one of her songs could blow up. With this latest release, “OpenTil2,” you’ll find another clean example of the diverse skills and talents that LAZĀ brings to this industry. I really wouldn’t be surprised if one day soon we find out that she’s working with The Dream, Beyoncé, André 3000, Coi Leray, or another dope musician who is willing to make something amazing happen. Support this artist every chance you get!
Isaacjacuzzi “Weed In The Morning”
This particular release is 10000% different than the rest. Seattle’s Isaacjacuzzi recently released this new song titled “Weed In The Morning,” that fuses reggae with some current and classic rap music elements. I find myself not always enjoying reggae music due to the slower pace and tempo of each beat and the singing, however this track’s unique sound with Isaacjacuzzi’s autotune and rapping lifted the song up and out of the classic sleepy reggae lane. If you like reggae and Seattle rap, this song is a solid potential fit for you.
Mafi D “From The Jump”
On August 2, Mafi D released his latest project, Everybody U Love Show Hate, featuring a sick track featuring two other artists, MikeJack3200, and Big Sad 1900. The three rappers absolutely killed this new song titled “From the Jump” and really demonstrate their skills as soon as the song begins. The Everybody U Love Show Hate project features seven songs with 19 minutes and 58 seconds of music from Mafi D, MikeJack3200 and a few other rising artists as well. Slap the whole project and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
Blake Anthony “MORPHEUS EXIT”
Certain artists make music that sounds like other people’s music. Some artists craft music that sounds similar to other people’s styles. Blake Anthony, however, makes music that soothes souls, talks about life, offers perspective, and inspires greatness. “MORPHEUS EXIT” may not be the summer hit you can shake ass too, but I would bet that this particular track ends up being one of the two or three on this list that you listen to at least twice. The beat by Croupdawg is fire, and his bars, which are always readily available, shine bright and hit hard.
TBU Quanny
When I first found this guy TBU Quanny, I honestly wasn’t sure if I would fuck with dude’s music or overall brand. I read hella comments and almost passed on just listening and watching the video because of the general hate for his craft. Once I did listen and watch the video, I honestly slapped this shit like four or five times and found myself saying the lyrics to me later in the day. “DROPOUTS” was catchy. The bars were solid. Impressive and funny even. Good enough to make me listen numerous times and be repeated hours later after listening. To me that is a major win and proof of an enjoyable song. Definitely tap in and check out dude’s work and stay tuned for more coverage.
2zzer “Many men”
When it comes to music, some songs I like the lyrics, or the beat, or maybe I’m just a fan of the person and trying to hear them out. There could be any combination of reasons why I like someone’s record or project. For our last music feature on this week’s list, I’ve included 2zzer and Maika Million because I really enjoyed the samples used and the beat overall, both artist’s verses, and the music video too. Was this the most impressive song I’ve ever heard or the best music video ever? No, but I would say that all of these elements were still great ingredients together and made for something really good. “Many Men” is a fire concept and the flows and cadences from both artists were impressive to say the least.
Make sure to tap in every week for more updates on recent releases from local Pacific Northwest artists!
