Nowadays, it feels like everyone wants to be a rapper or a producer. Everyone’s downloading all these programs and trying to make it big in this new digital age. But very few stay true to the artistic roots of live instruments in the rap game. One group of musicians, out of Seattle, is trying to bring back that live sound. RapGhost is a local hip-hop band that uses drums (Joe Eck), bass (Forrest Marowitz), and the classic Rhodes piano (Evan Captain). Along with PhilHarmonic on vocals who has been performing in the Seattle area since he was 16.
Their latest track, the self-titled “Rapghost,” is a chill vibe with a pungent message. The piano provides a beautiful backbone for the track that keeps your head nodding throughout that track. PhilHarmonic’s flow on the track is a little more up-tempo than the composition behind it. This provides the energy needed to really that song that “umpff” as he goes into the chorus. R-A-P-G-H-O-S-T, say it with him and feel their presence. This group has been on their grind and the hard work comes through in the quality of their tunes. I give these guys one big ghostly “boo!” and that’s in the highest regards.
