Tacoma Washington’s hip-hop scene is on fire right now. There are a ton of super talented artists running laps around the city. Today we’re featuring some of the top-tier talents across the board from Tac Town. Producer, DJ, and all-around hustler DJ K-Phi just hit us with a new single featuring Tac Town legends King Leez and Lewie called “Raise Hell.”
The past few months have seen the greater Seattle metro area in the national spotlight. Many of our local artists have used their platform to speak on issues. Not “trending issues,” but issues long affecting their communities. While most of the country continues to believe we’re living in “wild times,” many of those with darker shades to their skin feel as if we’re living in the same times with more voices speaking up. Police brutality and systemic racism aren’t just rocking our nation as a trending topic, we’re witnessing the boiling point of an issue far too long ignored.
“Raise Hell” is a powerful record built around K Phi’s signature bounce, Lewie’s infectious hook, and King Leez’s ability to paint photos with words. This is really a great example of the top tier talent from the deep pool of Tacoma. Some of my favorite kind of music is a mixture of shit you can slap but also saying something within the bars, and this record definitely hits that spot.
“How you teach these children right from wrong,
When they just witnessed Floyd die from a phone,
cuz they got access.
asphyxia or target practice,
Either way, these actions funded by your taxes. (let that sink in).”
