Portland Pickles Baseball Becomes First Sports Team To Offer THC Beverages At Games

In what is a first for the cannabis industry, a little-known baseball team based in Portland, Oregon known as the Portland Pickles became the first team in sports to offer THC beverages to fans who attend their games.

The Portland Pickles announced on Monday that there was a new partnership with Cycling Frog, a brand that sells THC-based beverages, gummies, and other edibles. Cycling Frog became the exclusive THC beverage partner of the Pickles for the 2024 season.

Who are the Portland Pickles?

The Portland Pickles are a team in the collegiate summer baseball league known as the West Coast League. They were established in 2015 and are owned & operated by Rose City Baseball, LLC. This came after Portland’s other only baseball team, the Beavers, ceased operations in 2010. The Pickles were also originally part of what was known as the Great West League.

The Pickles would win a South Division title in 2018 and have been in the playoffs for 5 of their 9 seasons.

A New Milestone for Cannabis

The Pickles are not new to this sort of innovative partnership, however. In 2019, they became the first team to ever partner with a CDB brand, Lazarus Naturals. This was a catalyst for many other sports teams to follow suit.

This new partnership with Cycling Frog would officially begin during the Pickles’ matchup against the Cowlitz Black Bears on Tuesday.

Not only is this a massive breakthrough for the cannabis industry, but this is also a great way to provide more alternatives for adults who may not want to partake in alcoholic beverages. Oregon has already been a state where cannabis has been legal and prevalent for a while now, so it’s a perfect spot for something like this to happen.

This provides a pipeline that could lead up to bigger leagues, not just baseball, but basketball, football, and other major sports. We have seen the intersection between sports and cannabis become more harmonious as the years have gone on, with cannabis becoming less of a taboo commodity. How soon we will see more of this is yet to be determined. However, this is a major step in the implementation of cannabis in all sports settings.
