Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, Pasta Sisters beckons diners with the promise of authentic Italian cuisine, warm hospitality, and affordable prices. As I stepped into their original location in Mid City, I was immediately struck by the cozy ambiance and inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen. Little did I know that I was about to embark on my first true Italian culinary journey that would leave me craving more.
From the moment I entered Pasta Sisters, I was greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The staff members wore welcoming smiles, and their passion for food and service was palpable. It was evident that they took great pride in providing guests with a pleasant dining experience, and they certainly delivered. There were two dishes that immediately caught my eye: the award-winning Bolognese and the acclaimed lasagna. With high expectations, I eagerly placed my order for both dishes, anticipating that at least one of them would be as great as promised.
First up was the Bolognese, a dish that has garnered accolades and rave reviews from patrons and critics alike. And let me tell you, it lived up to every bit of the hype. The sauce was crafted with tomatoes that had been imported from Italy and was complete with complex layers of flavor and plenty of beef. The pasta was cooked perfectly with each bite leading to the mental thought, how much more of this can I really eat? The answer… All of it.
But the star of the show was undoubtedly the lasagna. As a self-identifying fattie that dedicates most of my trips to restaurants to those of Italian cuisine, I’ve sampled my fair share of lasagnas over the years, but none quite like this.
Pasta Sisters’ lasagna was a work of art, layers of delicate fresh pasta enveloping a luscious blend of creamy béchamel, tangy tomato sauce, and perfectly seasoned ground beef. I’ve also got to mention the crispy top of the lasagna and how that texture really made this lasagna truly amazing.
Of course, no Italian meal would be complete without bread, and Pasta Sisters certainly did not disappoint in this regard. Their focaccia bread was an absolute treat. Soft and pillowy with just the right amount of chewiness. The addition of big chunks of salt elevated the bread to new heights, adding a delightful burst of flavor with every bite. It was the perfect “appetizer” because of the balsamic and oil, and we didn’t even have to ask. Their team surprised us with it. Big shout out to Pasta Sisters’ commitment to quality and attention to detail.
Unfortunately I ate all of it before realizing that I didn’t take a photo so you’re going to have to take my word on how amazing this bread really was.
As I savored each mouthful of pasta, Dina, one of the family members, began to share the story of their family in Italy and how the business started. I couldn’t help but marvel at the passion and skill that went into creating such exquisite dishes. It was evident that Pasta Sisters’ chefs, their staff, the family, and everyone involved approached their craft with reverence and dedication, drawing inspiration from the rich culinary traditions of Italy while infusing each experience with their own creative flair.
But perhaps what impressed me most was the sense of community and camaraderie that permeated the restaurant.
Despite the bustling atmosphere in a smaller space, there was an unmistakable feeling of warmth and hospitality that made me feel right at home. Whether it was the friendly banter between staff members or the genuine conversations with fellow diners, Pasta Sisters felt like more than just a restaurant – it felt like I was hanging out at a family’s go-to spot.
It is pretty clear that my experience at Pasta Sisters was nothing short of extraordinary. From the impeccable hospitality to the unforgettable pasta dishes, every aspect of my dining experience exceeded my expectations. If you find yourself craving authentic Italian cuisine in Los Angeles, look no further than Pasta Sisters.
