OnlyFans is facing massive backlash ever since the subscription-based platform announced they would remove and ban any and all sexually oriented content. The porn ban has left not only users up in arms, but creators as well. Since its founding in 2016, OnlyFans has been used as a source of work for sex workers; especially during the pandemic. This was before the platform was exploited by celebrities like Bhad Bhabie, Tyga, and Bella Thorne. Their presence brought a wave of popularity to the social media platform.

Why The OnlyFans Porn Ban?
The CEO stated that OnlyFans chose to ban pornography from the platform because of the banks. Because there were so many users asking for subscription refunds, the website felt they should preserve their relationship with the banks by banning the adult content. They hoped this would solve any further refund requests.
Of all people, American rapper Tyga responded quickly by announcing his own platform called MyyStar. The direct competition was an obvious response to the OnlyFans porn ban. He even cut the fees OnlyFans charged in half for content creators on MyyStar. Now, after feeling so much heat and potential financial loss, the controversial social media platform is backtracking their announcement. They made the announcement on Twitter stating:
“Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.”
OnlyFans Shoot The Hand That Feeds Them
Creators on OnlyFans have been responding to that tweet. They’re asking for fee reduction because of the subscribers they lost since the initial announcement to ban sexually explicit content.
The biggest issue with the OnlyFans porn ban is that it’s what brought recognition to the website. It was essentially the whole identity of OnlyFans. For many people, it was a shady move to use it to find success and then ditch the creators who helped the platform grow. This move showed nothing but disloyalty to that community.
