Becoming one of the most poppin’ artists in the game is no easy task but that’s exactly what NLE Choppa has done thus far into his short music career. Born Bryson Potts back in 2002, Choppa initially started off in music releasing several songs under the moniker YRN Choppa.
He began freestyling at the age of 14 and was inspired by the likes of NBA Youngboy, Meek Mill, Lil Wayne, and other rappers with similar styles and exceptional rapping abilities. Entering real studios just a year after getting started with rapping, he decided to make music on a much more serious level and also changed his artist name to NLE Choppa to better reflect his brand “No Love Entertainment”.
In January 2019, Choppa’s single “Shotta Flow”, blasted through the social media algorithms and took over the world of rap and hip-hop. Accumulating millions and millions of views in just a few months, the NLE brand, and NLE Choppa specifically, blew up and became known as one of the hottest artists of the year.
The Memphis-born rapper quickly became one of the most requested artists across the country and received major interest and offers from just about every record label. He ultimately turned down the offers and negotiated a distribution deal where Potts owned the rights to his music.
Over the last year, NLE Choppa has performed at just about every major music festival that incorporates rap into its lineups. Touring all over the country and continuing to build his brand internationally at the same time, I’ve personally hit the point where I’m officially a fan. His flow, his brand, and his story are 3/3 when it comes to being dope and authentic.
Our brand has admittedly been slow when it comes to staying perfectly on track with current rap trends. Where we’re from in Seattle and Eastern WA, most of the music we come in contact with is driven by live-instruments that have been infused with bass that falls more in-line with “boom-bap” styles versus “trap music”.
Diving into NLE Choppa’s Spotify, dude already has 9.8M+ monthly listeners and isn’t even approaching his peak yet. His growth is on a path destined to continue rising. Don’t believe me? Listen to “Forever” below and tell me why you think he won’t continue to become more and more poppin’.
