[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Nipsey Hussle broke ground this time last year with the incredible success of his $100 Proud 2 Pay project Crenshaw. Inspired by Jonah Bergers ‘Contagious Why Things Catch On’, Nipsey approached his business model as a conversation rather than a dollar figure. This year Nipsey has one-up’d himself by releasing his new project with numerous payment options including a $1000 price tag to proudly own one of only 100 hard copies of Mailbox Money. If you follow Nipsey’s moves since he left Epic Records is 2010 he has not only blazed paths for independent music marketing but is establishing a new model for music to be purchased and distributed. Challenging the mainstream model, which is has been out of touch with the culture since Napster came out, Nipsey is one of few who have dared to put their money where their mouth is completely backing every aspect of the business behind his music. While staying hands on with his marketing, executive production, and distribution, Neighborhood Nip also puts himself in a class of ownership that few artists in the entire industry can rival.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

On the ending interlude of Stay Loyal ft. J Stone, Mr. Hussle addresses that the metric of success within the industry is no longer relevant and that he is placing ownership and the bottom dollar line over actual record sales. This is clear to see showing that Nipsey’s Crewnshaw sold out with only 1000 hard copies last year and brought in $100,000 in album sale revenue and this year Mailbox Money is on pace to do the same with only 100 hard copies. How many artists are making $100,000 off of 1000 albums? 100 albums? How many independent artist will make $100,000 off one project this year and grab features from Rick Ross, K-Camp, and DJ Mustard? The answer to these questions is Nipsey Hussle
To be honest it is hard for me to even review this project musically. Don’t get me wrong I love Nipsey and I have been playing this project every morning and gym session since it dropped. Hard beats, an unmistakable flow, and an inspiring message make Nipsey an artist that receives high replay value. Yet as a business enthusiast, his marketing/business are just inspiring to me as the music. The whole package that is Nipsey Hussle is exciting, motivating, and someone you need to pay attention to if you play any part to this music game or be left behind.
