New Releases From Quavo, Future, Kode9, Troye Sivan and More | New Music Monday

This week RMR is continuing our segment New Music Monday, where we run down the best new releases each week. This week we have some great songs to recommend for your playlist!

A lot of incredible music was released this week across multiple genres. For this episode, we are again focusing on new hip-hop and electronic, as well as some pop and rock influenced tunes. Our list includes Dave East, Quavo, Future, Post Malone, Kode9, Troye Sivan and more!

“HUSTLERS (feat.Tyga)”- Dave East

To kick things off, Dave East released a new song this friday, “HUSTLERS (feat. Tyga)”. This one is off of East’s newest studio album, Fortune Favors the Bold. The song includes great vocals from both rappers. Production wise, it includes a classic hip-hop beat as well as a looped sample of a choir, which adds a lot to the track. The lyrics include lots of clever lines, “Stuff fifty thousand large in the grocery bag/ And all I smell is cash through this COVID mask”. East also released a music video which features Tyga and Dave East rapping in a white mansion with guest appearances from Coi Leray, Kid Capri and some other famous faces.

“Turn Yo Clic Up”- Quavo and Future

One of my favorite new releases of the week is Quavo and Future’s new song. “Turn Yo Clic Up” is the fourth collaboration we have heard from the pair. The producers on this one include Atake, Basobeats, Sluzyyy, and Macshooter49. There has been speculation that this creation is an outlet for Future to throw shade at Russell Wilson, who is currently married to one of his exes. Future is not shying away in controversy in his verse and even makes some direct name drops, “I got it out the field, fuck Russell/ Go and ask Lori about the Patek, then go and ask Jordan ask Dess”. Overall, the song is a great example of collaboration, from the production to the lyrics, it is definitely not one to miss.

“Project Walls (feat. NBA Youngboy)”- Lil Tjay

Staying in the hip hop category, we also got a new album from Lil Tjay this week. His new album 222 was released this past Friday and it is already racking up the streams. 222 is a reference to when the rapper got shot last summer and was airlifted to the hospital. The album overall is about growing and maturing amidst tragedies.  One of the standout tracks from the record is the twelfth song “Project Walls (feat NBA YoungBoy)”. The song discusses Lil Tjay wanting to change his life after going through hard times. Despite the deep lyrical content, the vibe is quite bright, it is very melodic and has a hook that sticks in the listeners head. It is great to see Lil Tjay come back from tragedy better than ever and making some amazing music.

“Overdrive” – Post Malone

And finally to round out the hip-hop songs before I stray off into other genres today, Post Malone released a new tune this week “Overdrive”. This is the third single off of his upcoming album Austin, which is set to come out at the end of the month. Post Malone’s new releases are more pop influenced these days, but nevertheless he still has the hip hop influences that he is known for. “Overdrive” is a power ballad in its own right, its production includes some beautiful guitar parts, emotional vocals and even some string parts. In the song Post reflects on a past relationship and talks about how he’s been living his life recently in an unhealthy way. Overall, it is a beautiful reflective song and it is great to see this side of Post Malone.

“Infirmary”- Kode9

To start off the electronic category for this week, Kode9 released a new song “Infirmary.” Throughout his career, Kode9 has been a leading figure in the U.K. dubstep scene. He has been consistently releasing music since 2004, and his experience is definitely shown in his newer releases. “Infirmary” is an absolute masterpiece in terms of instrumental electronic music. The song starts off with a syncopated piano line and song edited vocals. It grows in intensity and has many drops and sections throughout. Kode9 is definitely showing his virtuosity and if you love electronic music you should check out this track.

“Bunny is a Rider (Remix)”- Sega Bodega

Another electronic release this week is Sega Bodega’s incredible remix of Caroline Polachek’s song “Bunny is a Rider”. Polachek recently released an EP full of various remixes of the song, and Sega Bodega’s remix totally knocks it out of the park. He adds a huge amount of vocal effects and an incredible beat. His version definitely gives new life to an already great song. I can see this remix becoming a quick hit in clubs.

“Rush”- Troye Sivan

To round out this week’s New Music Monday, in the pop category for this week, we have a new release from Troye Sivan, “Rush”. This is the first single off of his upcoming album Something To Give Each Other. “Rush is above all, a party song and was heavily inspired by nights Sivan spent at gay clubs in Melbourne. Production wise, it includes a great piano driven house beat that makes the listener want to get up and move. Also, there is a consistent chant throughout the track which adds a lot to the general feel of the track. Troye Sivan is definitely an artist to check out if you haven’t already.
