Today, after a year of hard work, Northwest rap artist, Matty, officially released his album “Mr. Nice Guy II”. So much talent was pulled together to create this album, it is incredible. Bear with me for a moment, because this list is long… The album includes production by Lukis, Johnny Juliano, Dizz, Trox, Tope, 8 Bar, Adamack, Soopa, Hala-X, Danson, Magic Trax, 9DM, Donald Glover, and Ludwig Goransson, and features DJ Fatboy, Epp, Dizz, Mstah F.A.B., Luck-One, Calvin Valentine, Tope, Phida, Sessa, Payne, Mac Smiff, EndrWon, Pen Stein, Bank Sinatra, and Leek. With so many artists brought together, you can be assured this is a quality project.
What audiences might not know is that this is Matty’s 9th solo release in 7 years. Any artist who has produced that much music in such a short period of time deserves their audiences attention. Through it all, 25 year old Matty remains humble, despite having performed over 200 shows along side artists such as Illmaculate, Twista, Braille, Tech N9ne, E40 and Pac Div.
While this album is a sequel to Matty’s previous release, “Mr. Nice Guy”, “Mr. Nice Guy II” has it’s own sound, independent from it’s name-sake album. This project is personal. Inspired by life experiences, Matty opens up with his audience and creates something genuine and transparent. “Found The Light”, “Ever After” and “Don’t Look Back” are just a few of the tracks on this album that reveal something honest and real. “I really focused on the listener connecting to the music on a deeper level than just listening. There is a point where a listener connects to a song to a point where it will remind them of a certain moment in life, 10 years from now. That’s my goal,” said Matty, about “Mr. Nice Guy II”.
Tonight, in honor of the release, Matty will perform his last show in Salem. He will be relocating this summer to continue to pursue his musical career on a bigger scale. If you have a chance to make it to The Ike Box tonight in Salem, I am sure it will be worth your time. Performances will be made by Matty, TxE, Leek and DJ Payne. Doors open at 7, show starts at 8pm.
