A new documentary tributing the life and legacy of Swedish DJ Avicii is set to premiere on screens in 2023. As of yet, only a few details have been revealed. Avicii’s estate has announced that the film will be dedicated to the “music and the artist who defined an era and changed the world of music forever.” Such wise, the documentary will feature behind-the-scenes archives, as well as interviews with Avicii’s family, friends, and the artist himself.
The new documentary will be directed by Henrik Burman, and produced by Swedish director and cinematographer Björn Tjärnberg and Candamo Film in collaboration with Swedish National Television.
“I want this to be a film that surprises the audience and challenges the public’s image of Sweden’s biggest international artist of today and, in doing so, also shine a light on what his music has meant to so many people.”

Avicii: True Stories
However, it is not going to be the first documentary about Avicii’s life. The forthcoming film follows the 2017 film Avicii: True Stories, directed by Levan Tsikurishvili. Filmed over a period of four years, True Stories captured the producer’s mental health burnout and personal struggles that made him decide to retire from touring. As it turned out, this was all taking place at the very end of his musical career – and even his life – which, at that time, was impossible to imagine.
“Live the Life You Will Remember”
Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, known by the stage name Avicii, took his own life back in 2018. A year later, his family established the Tim Bergling Foundation, which advocates for the global problem of suicide. Also, in honor of the worldwide EDM legend, the city of Stockholm, Sweden, renamed Ericsson Globe venue to Avicii Arena. Additionally, the city authorities announced the opening of a dedicated artist museum on the main public square in Stockholm this year. By the way, for Avicii fans, his biography is set to be published in November, 2021.
Avicii’s progressive electro house music with soul-touching lyrics have found response in the hearts of music lovers globally. As soon as released, his songs burst into the mainstream with lightning speed. Not to mention, his early career single, “Levels,” from 2011 still remains popular all over the world. Throughout his musical career, the artist has released two multi-platinum albums, True and Stories. However, the artist’s third album, TIM, arrived posthumously.

Avicii is gone, but he’s long from forgotten. Thus, in 2019, Tim Bergling Foundation hosted a massive tribute concert held in Stockholm, with 60,000 in live attendance. Top DJs like David Guetta, Tiësto, Kygo, Steve Aoki, and others keep celebrating their dear friend Tim in their sets at all major music festivals year after year since he passed away. Certainly, Avicii will live as long as his music is alive.
