Last year’s #10, Neema, once again found a place on the Freshest in the Northwestlist despite a lack of a project and very little new material musically. Instead, he’s like Mac Smiff dubbed him as the “Dr. Dre of the Northwest,” meaning many of the artists enjoying success right now owe their recognition to Neema getting them there. Non-musically, Neema has constantly been putting on successful events and hosting while continuing what Q Dot recognized as, “one of the craziest grinds that I have ever seen.” Still, the lack of a project as his often delayed “The Cigar Room” continues to sit like “Detox,” troubled many members of the panel when Neema originally landed in the 9th slot citing that possibly Raz Simone or Illmaculte, who both just missed the list, deserved his spot instead. Say what you want about Neema, but with an undeniable public presence that even gets him on the evening news he is still constantly fresh on everyone’s mind.
Never the less, when given the chance to vote the more musically active Thaddeus David up to the #9 slot, the panel voted unanimously dropping Neema exactly to where he landed last year and Thaddeus up to #9. Did Neema deserve a spot on this year’s list and will Thaddeus continue his climb up the list to pass #8? Join in the conversation on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #FreshestintheNW
