Travis Thompson’s final video from his much appraised Runaways EP has arrived. Travis loves to make videos for his music, having sold out a movie theatre in Seattle for the premiere of his music video series YouGood?. By doing videos for every song the way he does, Travis creates a collective story that gives his fans that much more insight into who he is. The videos for Runaways have been no different with “Need You” capping off the series in a big way.
“Need You” – Travis Thompson
The video starts off with Travis standing at the alter looking like “Andy Milonakis with a lot less swag,” ready for his young ass self to get married. As if inspired by Shrek himself, it cuts to Travis’ homie outside of the church looking very frantic. Finally, just like in everyone’s favorite love story, we see the friend bust in yelling, “I object!” So, of course, like the hooligans they still are, we see the squad booking it from the church into an old El Camino with the wedding cans still on it. Driving to the local corner store to lift a few bottles and raise hell with the boys.
In “Need You,” Travis raps about the struggle of wanting a relationship but not being able to drop his toxic habits. Constantly being pulled between goonin’ it up and wanting that independence while still fighting that craving for a real one. “Need You” is a story of the rough side of love. A melodic track featuring a chill piano that almost gives me lo-fi vibes. Of course, Travis still hits with his high energy style and extended vocal ability. With one of the largest crew’s he’s ever had at his disposal this may be Travis’ best solo video yet. And was that a sneak peek to an unreleased song I heard there at the end?
