Hailing from the DMV area, both Mon$ter Corleone and Big Flock stand out on the track, “I’m Cappin,” which they recently released. The single caught our attention with it gaining traction through Twitter and other music media outlets. They put a positive spin on their environment and self-identity compared to most of the rappers out now.
Recently, Mon$ter Corleone discussed how the song came to be on the Hip Hop Uncensored podcast. He talked about creating the track in light of the recent YSL RICO controversy; as well as several more criminal justice incidents where rappers are being persecuted for what they say and promote in their songs.
Mon$ter Corleone and Big Flock Are Cappin
There are many notable lyrics within “I’m Cappin” such as, “Run a small business, I don’t sell drugs, to be honest, I’m pretty established”. As well as the blatant, “I’m just portraying this shit, it’s an image. I’m just a rapper, this shit is a gimmick.”
On the surface, this track is hard with some galloping drums and piano to set the pace. But deep down, this the wholesome type of rap that can influence the next generation to be honest with themselves. You can write and perform a fictional song about dangerous lifestyles, but you don’t have to let yourself get caught up in it. The only guns you’re going to see Mon$ter and Big Flock waving around are Nerf guns.
“I’m Cappin” has received a bunch of love with it being posted by DMV Hoodz Nd Newz Media, one of the biggest music and news platforms in the DMV area. In addition, it has been gaining quite a bit of attention on Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram. The song has even received attention and praise from Lebron James and Complex. Mon$ter Corleone’s newest EP is set to release in September, entitled Pussy Money Power.
