Veteran producer Madlib is always working on something new, but the one project he never followed up on after teasing years ago is his joint album with Mac Miller. He had previously played unreleased songs with the late Pittsburg rapper at two shows in 2019 but didn’t give further updates on it till recently.
After featuring Miller on his album with Talib Kweli, Liberation 2, Madlib confirmed that the long-lost Maclib project was almost done during a recent appearance on Sway in the Morning: “Right now, I’m finishing up the Mac Miller album.”
This past weekend, Madlib previewed new tracks with Miller and Freddie Gibbs during a show in Sydney, Australia. The cut with Miller is called “Nosey Neighbour” whereas the Gibbs number, which will most likely be featured on their third crossover record, Montana, is called “John Gotti Karate.”
The California producer even confirmed he was working on new music with Fly Anakin and Meyhem Lauren, both of which he said were dropping soon. During the Sway interview referenced above, he even said that he was working on an album with Erykah Badu.
“I’ma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for,” Madlib said during an interview with XXL. “Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy. I’m making the best music of my life, so it’s no reason to stop. And I’m the king of R&B, so I gotta do that album as well.”
