This week RMR is continuing our segment New Music Monday where we share fire music from the past week. Today, we have some great songs for the first week of September including one of the dopest songs in quite some time, ‘Kat Food’ by Lil Wayne.
A lot of incredible tunes were released this week across multiple genres. For this episode, we are again focusing on new hip-hop and electronic songs, as well as some pop-influenced tracks. Our list includes Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Alesso and many more!
New Music Monday
“Last Time I Saw You” – Nicki Minaj
To kick things off, Nicki Minaj recently released her new single titled “Last Time I Saw You”. The song includes loads of mature and deep lyrics, with some great singing and rapping. The production is clearly pop-influenced. “Last Time I Saw You” is definitely a different side of Minaj that hasn’t been seen in her big singles prior.
“Demons” – Doja Cat
Doja Cat released a great tune as well, the song is titled “Demons” and it could be another massive hit for Doja. The production is incredible and includes a heavy kick drum and a booming bassline. Lyrically, the song is a classic Doja Cat track, stocked full of funny and clever lines.
“No Fake Love (with YoungBoy Never Broke Again)”- Queen Naija
Staying in the hip-hop category Queen Naija and Youngboy Never Broke Again recently released a beautiful collaboration “No Fake Love”. Queen Naija’s vocals are angelic as usual and YoungBoy NBA provides a great verse. With this track, both artists are set to further cement their place in the industry.
“Kat Food” – Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne’s new release “Kat Food” has been in our ears heavy this Labor Day weekend as well. The tune has some super unique production with loads of sound effects, even including a siren-like synth patch. Lil Wayne rapping is incredible as always and he seems to really go into overdrive for certain parts of the track. This one is arguably the dopest song on the list and is more than worth checking out!
“Ex-Special” – Jhayco & Peso Pluma
Another great collaboration released recently is Jhayco and Peso Plumo’s newest song “Ex-Special”. The song’s production is incredible, combining some traditional Latin-inspired beats with modern synths and drum parts as well. Jhayco’s voice is gorgeous and it is overall a great song to dance to.
“Isabel Marant”- Coi Leray
Coi Leray has been killing the game recently and her new song “Isabel Marant” further proves her rap prowess. It is a track off of her newest EP Blue Moon and although the song is short, clocking in at just over a minute, and thirty seconds, it is definitely one of the standout tracks. With a fierce production and Leray’s dope rapping and vocals, “Isabel Marant” is not one to miss.
“Street Sweeper (feat. Swae Lee)” – CHASE B
CHASE B and Swae Lee released their most recent collaboration “Street Sweeper” recently. The track not only includes great rapping but also a dope beat that is driven by a high hat and a heavy bass. On top of that, distorted guitar chords in the background add to the overall intense vibe of the production.
“Half Doin Dope” – JID, BabyTron & Lil Yachty
Possibly the greatest rap track on our list this week is JID, BabyTron and Lil Yachty’s newest epic collaboration “Half Doin Dope”. The song is a part of JID and Yachty’s newest project as the duo BlakkBoyz. After hearing this track I am super excited to see what else the pair has in the works!
“Bonecrusher (feat. Key Glock)” – Maxo Cream
Key Glock is back on of New Music Monday list this week with his collaboration with Maxo Cream “Bonecrusher”. The tune has a super catchy hook and is filled with some great bars from both artists. The song includes an interpolation from Bone Crusher’s 2003 track “Never Scared”, but is able to make the song new and fresh. Check this one out for sure!
“Doin Yo Stuff” – Blxst & Bino Rideaux
Blxst and Bine Rideaux released a beautiful single as well, “Doin Yo Stuff”. The first thing I noticed about this tune was the sick bassline and snappy kick drum. On top of that, the vocals and rapping are great and seem influenced by early 2000s hip-hop. Overall, a win in my book!
“Free” – Dillion Francis, Alesso & Clementine Douglas
This week there have been a bunch of great EDM releases, one of our favorites being Dillion Francis, Alesso and Clementine Douglas’ “Free”. The song starts off with some intense hits and holds the listener’s attention and doesn’t let go. With many builds and drops, production like no other, and even a catchy vocal line, it is safe to say this is one of my favorite EDM tracks released this year.
“Lose This Feeling” – Armin van Buuren
Armin van Buuren released an incredible EDM song this week as well, “Lose This Feeling”. The song is full of energy and is an easy club hit. Overall, the amazing shuffle beat and catchy hook are bound to get the listener hooked and on their feet.
“The Horizon (With You)” – DubVision and NU-La
Last on our list for this week’s New Music Monday is another excellent EDM release “The Horizon (With You)” by DubVision and Nu-La. The song is a bit chiller (for EDM) and contains gorgeous vocals as well as beautiful synth-driven builds and a great use of vocal effects.
Thanks for checking out this week’s New Music Monday! Make sure to check out our New Music Monday playlist here which includes all of these songs including Lil Wayne’s ‘Kat Food’, as well as songs included on previous lists.
