On August 24th Ty Lewis aka Leyshock will be making his full-length album debut with New Bones. After releasing the first song off the album back in January, Leyshock has been in constant preparation mode to get ready for the album’s release. The 23-year-old came up to Seattle a few years ago from Arizona to pursue musical theater at Cornish, only to leave after two years for a career in performing his own music. A few days ago he rocked his most attended set at the Vera Project.
Leyshock made the decision to stop performing on the theatrical stage after being diagnosed with epilepsy. He subsequently left Cornish, and began a band that saw some local shine under the name 3Bruh. They put out two albums after a year and a half long endeavor, only to leave Leyshock with a lot of music and no band in the end. After deciding to simply do it all himself, he got to work writing and recording every single piece of music that is on New Bones.

Ty Lewis told me that this upcoming album is truly his exploration into the hip-hop genre. “I wanted to explore what rap was because I was never really allowed to listen to it growing up,” he told me over the phone. For his first EP, “Playground Fame,” Ty went for more of a typical hip-hop sound that he ultimately felt wasn’t his authentic vibe. He feels with this upcoming release that it will be more of a singer/songwriter’s approach to a rap album. Leyshock’s New Bones will be an eye-opening adventure into dalliances and subgenres of hip-hop. You’ll even notice a feature from local hustler, Marshall Hugh, of Marshall Law Band.
Expect to see ample content coming in the near future to roll out the upcoming album drop. Leyshock’s got a master plan that’s just beginning to come together. The dude has a whole reel of snippets for each song that will be trickling out over the next several weeks.
