Atlanta rapper Mulatto has just let loose her first single after officially shortening her name to Latto. “The Biggest” is a flashy and revealing cut with a booming beat. Each bar speaks on her reasoning for the name-swap and the empire she’s building. The track is enormous and saw production from Supah Mario and Akachi.
With the music video for “The Biggest,” Miss Latto puts herself on a pedestal, acknowledging her successes and shortcomings. Speaking on the name change, Latto raps “it contradicted what I stand for/The backlash ain’t what I planned for.” You’ll see Latto flexing on stage while flashing embarrassing childhood photos and addressing the haters in a press conference. She also shows scenes of her name lit up in Times Square. Each scene in this video amounts to her claim that she is in fact, “The Biggest.”
At only 22-years-old, Latto has already built a palpable name for herself in the rap game since the release of her studio album Queen of da Souf last year. With co-signs from Gucci Mane on her viral hit “Muwop,” and features from Saweetie, Trina, and City Girls on the album, she quickly rose to success. By making the moniker switch to Latto, she’s gearing up to continue growing without resistance.
Mulatto Changes Her Name To Latto
In a January interview that Latto did with Hot Freestyle, she spoke more on her reason for making the switch. She said “you know, you might know your intentions, but these are strangers who don’t know you, never even met you in person. So you gotta hear each other out, and if you know those aren’t your intentions and that’s how it’s being perceived, it’s like why not make a change or alter it? For me, it was the name. So now I’m like, ‘OK, my intentions was to never glorify being mulatto.’”
Miss Latto is now poised to keep taking over the rap game with her anthemic bangers. Confident, smooth, and unapologetic are pillars of her infectious style that shine through on “The Biggest.” Check out the music video below, and see Latto speak her truths and prove why she’s on her way to the top.
