To be honest I don’t care for women’s basketball, but for the last 7+ years I have had the pleasure of watching one of the best Northwest female hoop stars blossom into an amazing PRO-athlete. Kayla Standish has been friends with my family, my business partner’s family, and most of the community of Ellensburg, Washington for many years. She has been a great role model for the community and has shown that no matter the size of town your from, hard work pays off. I remember playing on my parents driveway during a few summers with my brothers and Kayla and no one wanting to get matched up with her, because she would give you buckets…and block your shot…or hit you in the face attempting to block your shot (I walked away from many afternoon games with a red face).
During her high school career we witnessed a dominate player on the court who exceeded all expectations of the last name. The last couple of years the community of Ellensburg have attended Gonzaga games and tuned into ESPN to watch one of our own take her talents to her full potential. Yesterday Kayla was taken 19th overall in the WNBA draft to the Minnesota Lynx. From everyone at RMR and from the city of Ellensburg…congratulations Kayla Standish we are incredibly proud of you!!
