Kanye West decides to drop DONDA on September 3rd, the same day Drake is dropping his highly-anticipated album Certified Lover Boy.
Drake had reportedly “hacked” ESPN’s “Sportscenter” Friday morning and shared the release date for Certified Lover Boy. The weird, hack-like cuts had a hooded person holding a cardboard sign that said “CLB” and the date, September 3 underneath it.
Kanye West And Drake Delay Release of Albums
Just like Kanye West, Drake’s album has been delayed from its initial release date, but for different reasons. Not only did Drake injure his knee and wanted to focus on recovery, but he also had to recover from COVID-19. Kanye’s delays have been strictly an artistic struggle.
However, Kanye West changed the release date for DONDA to September 3rd, according to the date change on Apple Music. It was initially set for the 5th of September but got moved up to the third the day of Drake’s announcement. Does it seem like a direct response to Drake’s announcement? Knowing Ye, that’s exactly what it is.

Drake was set to release the album in January of this year. Whereas Kanye West had initially announced a release date of late July of 2020. Kanye had many announcements of rescheduled album drop dates. Additionally, he also had a total of 3 listening events, where he lived short-term in the stadiums he chose to perform DONDA at. Kanye actually had his first home built in Soldiers Field for his third listening event.
The “Beef”
Kanye’s date change is due to the “friendly” beef Kanye West and Drake have over a song called “Betrayal.” This song by Drake and Trippie Redd has the Toronto rapper dissing Kanye about speculations that Kanye was waiting to release his album on the same date as Drake. In addition, Kanye had posted Drake’s home address recently.
So, with Kanye being Kanye, the Chicago rapper decided to bring his verses to reality and changed his date to Drake’s announcement date.
Both rappers not only have a massive following and loyal fans, but they both also have high-quality discographies and resumes. Both artists have had long, and successful careers and don’t plan on stopping yet. The question of “When?” has been answered. Now, the question is, who will have the better album?
