Jodi is a 20-year-old artist from San Francisco who has been singing and playing piano for 15 years. She’s only been recording since last May, but has already shown a knack for solid delivery. Her new EP “For The Summer” is a passionate and energetic collection of cuts. Within the four tracks, she showcases a variety of flows and styles of singing. On top of that, she teamed up with Town Entertainment to give us some engaging visuals for “Get The Picture.”
A Little Push
A defining point in her life was spending time in the hospital for mental health issues. Jodi was supposed to be there for two weeks but a couple things happened while she was there that opened her eyes to beautiful possibilities. On her second day, an older patient told her she didn’t belong there, that she should be out in the world making music.
Another occasion in which Jodi was crying in her room, a nurse who had heard her story came in with a piece of paper. That piece of paper read “for I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord.” Those moments gave Jodi the strength she needed and she demanded to be released. Once she was out she got that quote tatted on her, got in the studio, and never looked back.
Her Come Up
Jodi made her For The Summer EP in just three days but it’s not something she didn’t put thought in to. Wanting to focus on rap/hip hop and what summer means to her makes this EP both emotional and celebratory. The first track is a 51-second poem about self-love and understanding individuality. The second and third tracks are those more celebratory, in the club, feeling yourself vibes with “Get The Picture” has a music video shot by Town Entertainment. The final track is a remix of her single released in January featuring KodacTheGreat.
