In Summer Splash’s first year it is already making waves. For example, it appears the PNW will be represented by I Am Chamel in an epic battle against Jonesboro, LA artist Deezy Cayne. The event’s creator, Marshall Hugh, issued a challenge on socials to any takers looking to battle Chamel. This challenge was issued when another artist said they’d take her down in a battle and then failed to commit. She’s the two time reigning Mo Jam Cypher champion with a trail of bodies in her wake. Which makes it easy to understand why there was nothing but crickets after the challenge was sent out.
However, Deezy Cayne is cut from a different cloth. The blood cousin of late battle legend Lil Snupe, Deezy came up rapping in a world far different than the one we live in up here. He found out about the challenge last night at a taping of After Dark on Rainier Ave Radio. The show was originally just to promote Summer Splash. But it was during the pre-show conversation the Marshall brought up what was happening with the challenge. Deezy was there to promote his set at the festival and overheard. He wasted no time and threw his hat in the ring while spitting bars like the battle had already begun.
The showdown is taking place this Saturday at Summer Splash in Fremont. There is $500 prize to the winner with $250 going to a charity of their choosing and $250 going to the pocket of the artist. Come out and watch some Seattle history unfold in real-time. This could be one for the ages!
