Lucky 2016 was the first event I’ve been to in 3+ years where I was more impressed with the setup and production than the actual performances. In my opinion most DJs aren’t that exciting to watch anymore and concerts have started to become less ‘mind blowing’ without additional entertainment like visuals and crowd performers. I had my doubts going into this year’s festival but luckily Lucky always ends up becoming one hell of a party.
USC Events really worked some magic once again by stepping things up across the board. Beautiful stage designs, an excited sold-out crowd, and the perfect layout for the Tacoma Dome were all major parts to such an amazing production.
When I first entered Lucky I actually went into the Leprechaun’s Lair where I found the first stage. Although this space wasn’t visually as impressive as the other stages, the artists who performed at the bass stage were heavy enough to keep the room packed all night. Shout out to Zomboy, Crizzly, Luminox and KJ Sawka for killer sets in the bass lair.
Each of the three stages sounded pretty crisp all night and delivered enough bass to keep the headbangers happy. I never once heard the sound bleed from any of the stages and thought that the LED boards were set-up absolutely perfect for the main stage. I personally enjoyed how the ‘trance stage’ looked the most because it had an incredibly chill amphitheater vibe. The show started to get really crazy once the main stage’s flames were utilized later on into the night.
