Hot Music Friday Featuring Armani White, Lupe Fiasco, Thundercat and More

As May sets in, we’re stoked to help you ease into it. This Hot Music Friday, we bring you a colorful range of hip-hop joints seasoned with some rock and electronic cuts. Production, vocals and instrumentation of the highest standard are all on display this week, and we’re excited to send it your way.

The main course this time around is made up of Armani White, Lupe Fiasco, Thundercat and many more, so what’re you waiting for? Dig in!

Hot Music Friday – May 5, 2023

“SILVER TOOTH” – Armani White (feat. A$AP Ferg)

This is precisely what we were referring to by “colorful.” Armani White has a rich track record of churning out bangers, so it comes as no surprise that he dropped another. Of course, this time he brought A$AP Ferg along for the ride, so we really didn’t have an option but to feature this on Hot Music Friday. It just keeps getting better!

“Gangsta Rap” – Fatlip & Blu (prod. Madlib)

The buzzwords are in the title. Fatlip, Blu and Madlib — do you really need another reason to listen to this joint? That’s what we thought. We have here three of hip-hop’s most prized technicians putting their skills on display, and it’s exactly what you’d expect.

“SentRock” – Lupe Fiasco

When it comes to Lupe Fiasco, quality verses are always guaranteed. “SetRock” is just another example of why the Chicago MC is among hip-hop’s elite spitters, almost to the point where it feels academic. No one bar wasted — we commend that, and it’s our honor to shout it out on Hot Music Friday.

“Motion God” – Moneybagg Yo

Let’s pivot to something more lighthearted. For that, we can’t think of a better name than Moneybagg Yo. Smooth as ever, this track will have you moving whether you like it or not. The Memphis rapper has mastered the art of getting his listeners lit through the speakers, so if that’s what you’re trying to get into, peep this one for sure.

“No More Lies” – Thundercat & Tame Impala

On his first new song in three years, Thundercat decided to join forces with one of the most powerful entities in the contemporary music space. Though he certainly could’ve made some noise all on his own, the bassist and singer thought it best to welcome Tame Impala into his world on this buttery new single. We’re beyond thrilled to feature this stellar new cut on Hot Music Friday.

“A Child’s Question, August” – PJ Harvey

English singer-songwriter PJ Harvey is one of the most accomplished artists from the past thirty years. To stir up anticipation for her first album since 2016, she has dropped a spacey yet crisp new single. “A Child’s Question, August” gives us a taste of I Inside the Old Year Dying, due July 7, and we’re already counting the days!

“All of a Sudden” – Chemical Brothers

For fans of electronic music, it’s always important to look back and appreciate who brought us this far. One of the first names to pop up when you do so is English two-piece Chemical Brothers. The pioneers of the big beat genre are currently gearing up for what many believe is a new album, though no specific details regarding that have been confirmed yet. So far, we only have a few new singles, which is enough to get us excited.

So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously – Atmosphere

You’ve definitely seen Atmosphere on Hot Music Friday before. We’ve been waiting for this one to drop for a while now, and the time has finally come. After a series of whimsical singles, the Minnesota hip-hop veterans have put out their 13th studio album. Intended to engage fans from beginning to end, we urge you to set aside some time so to give this record a proper listen.

For more context, check out our profile on Atmosphere based on an exclusive interview with Slug.

GENESIS – Whyte Fang

The mystery is finally over. Alison Wonderland’s alias has returned in full effect with a new studio record — her first but hopefully not her last. After teasing a proper return through the release of several singles, Whyte Fang has given fans a new record comprising 11 cuts. Over a decade in the making, the tracklist features Erick the Architect, Elohim, Barney Bones and Chidi Himself. We’d even go so far as to say this is the crown jewel of Hot Music Friday this week!
