Let’s give June the sendoff it deserves this Hot Music Friday. The final Friday of the month also happens to be its very last day, so let’s make it a memorable one. We’ve decided to declare that summer is officially here so let’s act like it.
This weekend, we got fresh tunes from Lil Tjay, Busta Rhymes and Akon, among others. Are you ready?
Hot Music Friday – June 30, 2023
“June 22nd” – Lil Tjay
At only 22 years of age, Lil Tjay has been killing it ever since he hit the scene in 2016. Since then, he has maintained a high standard and kept things on brand. “June 22nd” possesses all the qualities of a hit, so we had to open Hot Music Friday with it.
“BEACH BALL” – Busta Rhymes (feat. BIA)
This bop was released just days prior to the 2023 BET Awards, where Busta Rhymes was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s crazy to think that he’s dropping bangers like this after being in the game for so long. Of course, that BIA feature is the cherry on top.
“RespectYourself” – The Colleagues (feat. Akon)
Akon willingly took a step back from the spotlight after dominating the game in the mid-to-late 2000s. Today, he continues to make music and pop up here and there, but the surprising part is his product is as tight as it’s ever been. Hence, it’s no surprise that the R&B icon’s latest collaboration with The Colleagues is absolutely phenomenal.
“Eastside” – Jay Rock (feat. Kal Banx)
We try to give you a little bit of everything on Hot Music Friday, so here’s some a taste of that harder stuff. Jay Rock has kept it steady with the hard-hitting bars, but he’s now got Kal Banx along for the ride — our only question is why didn’t he do it sooner?
“True Babe” – Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani has two sides to her, and we rarely get to hear the version displayed on “True Babe” anymore. Not only is this a rare occurrence but it’s also truly special because this isn’t just some throwaway callback to her older style but it’s actually a solid track, beginning to end.
“OMO” – Peech.
Smooth like butter as always, Peech.’s new joint creates the perfect atmosphere to close out a weekend. It perfectly encapsulates the calmness of a Sunday evening, but truthfully, it could work anywhere at any time. Even though it’s a Hot Music Friday feature, try it on a Monday and it’ll still have you nodding in rhythm.
“But Not Kiss” – Faye Webster
If you like what Faye Webster does, she’ll most likely never disappoint you. Going off her track record so far, the singer-songwriter has been unbelievably consistent and always given fans only her finest work. “But Not Kiss” is just another fantastic composition by the 26-year-old indie sweetheart.
“mr. titubeante” – VALÉ
Hot Music Friday feels incomplete without at least one up-and-coming artist and boy, do we have a name for you. Our money’s on VALÉ, so circle back here once she makes it because we’re saying this in advance: We told you so! Till then, enjoy her latest track.
