Time to wrap up another month with a Hot Music Friday celebration, so let’s do it the right way. As July comes to an end, we bring you a fresh batch of tunes comprising a wide variety of sounds and emotions because that’s what we do best.
This time around, our picks range from hip-hop to pop, and as usual, that one curveball at the end. Go on, it’s better you kickstart the weekend sooner rather than later!
Hot Music Friday – July 28, 2023
“Roc-A-Fella Y’all” – Lupe Fiasco
The Chicago MC and academic is preparing to drop a new album and he’s been hyping it up with one dope single after another. Our opener for Hot Music Friday this time is a sure to become a Lupe Fiasco favorite, so let’s get to it right away.
“Ole Ass Kendrick” – Smino
Smino stays on brand, yet things never get uninteresting with him — that’s no easy feat. If the song title wasn’t enough to hook you in, take our word for it and believe us when we say this is high up on our list for a very good reason.
“Miss Belladonna” – Slayyyter
It’s tough to categorize Slayyyter because she’s really all over the place, but the one constant across all her material is that it’s dope. That’s precisely why we shout her out so often on Hot Music Friday, and this weekend is no different.
“Parkour” – Erick the Architect
Produced by James Blake, the new single by the Flatbush Zombies producer and MC is a psychedelic daydream set in the nighttime. We know, that probably doesn’t make much sense, so you’ll have to listen for yourself to see what we mean.
“My Body // Your Body”– Snakehips & Muni Long
Snakehips are back with a new joint following the release of their debut LP, never worry, which dropped in May. If you haven’t already checked out the record, let this single be your way in. We promise, you won’t regret it!
“Married With Millions”– Gucci Mane
Gucci Mane’s reputation precedes him, so there’s not much we can say about him that isn’t already known. To leave him out of our Hot Music Friday picks, however, would’ve just felt wrong because his newest song is exactly what our lists are meant to represent.
“Silence” – Ama Lou
Who said pop is generic? Certainly not Ama Lou, because one listen to her content will have you seeing things differently. You can dance as easily to this one as you can take it easy, which is a rare trait no matter where you look.
The Ballad of Darren – Blur
Here’s that curveball we mentioned before, but it certainly won’t catch you off-guard. Quite the contrary, in fact, because you’ll almost certainly welcome it. As Britpop legends Blur make their comeback, we’re thrilled to bring you their latest album to close out Hot Music Friday.
