The third month of 2023 is over and it’s upon us to close it out on a high note. This Hot Music Friday, we’ve curated a list of music that spans genres and eras, so you’ll surely find comfort in some of our picks. As for the rest, we promise you a captivating listen if you take a chance with the unfamiliar.
From Tyler, the Creator to Troyboi, the following selections are a celebration of the month gone by. Check it out!
Hot Music Friday – March 31, 2023
“Fighting Myself” – Linkin Park
Unearthed music from the late, great Chester Bennington is always a treat. For those who grew up listening to Linkin Park, the Meteora and Hybrid Theory years were crucial, so having never-before-heard cuts from that phase drop today is truly special.
“PANIC!!” – Paris Texas
If you’re going out this weekend, throw this on — you can pregame sober now! The good part about this is it will carry you through the night regardless of where you are. Paris Texas custom made this one for turning up, so we had to include it on our list this Hot Music Friday.
“State Champ” – Hit-Boy (feat. Dom Kennedy & Jay 305)
Most producers are hit or miss but Hit-Boy just doesn’t miss. On his newest album, the Californian beatmaker hosts fellow West Coast MCs Dom Kennedy and Jay 305 on a laid-back trap joint, which should be enough to sell you the full tracklist.
“Yalla” – TroyBoi (feat. UZ)
Things always get intense with TroyBoi, so it’s reassuring that he always keeps things on brand. Skip past this one if you’re trying to relax, but don’t make the mistake of forgetting about it when you’re finally ready to get crunk.
“La Samba” – Wax Motif (feat. Riordan)
We never turn down techno with some flavor, so here’s an offering from Wax Motif. We certainly didn’t hold back from picking out some party tunes this Hot Music Friday, so let’s top it off with this one.
The Great Escape – Larry June & the Alchemist
The full-length collaboration is finally here this Hot Music Friday. After a series of teasers ranging from straightforward promotional singles to the Alchemist making a cameo behind the mic at Rolling Loud, the excitement for this one has been high. Let’s feast!
“I Wanna Keep Yr Dog” – illuminati hotties
One of the hottest prospects in the indie rock scene, Sarah Tudzin is a musician and producer who is spearheading what she calls “tender punk” through her band illuminati hotties. Yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like, and we love it. Give it a listen!
“Nightbird” – The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Anton Newcombe and Co. have been going strong and steadily putting out music for over three decades. Even today, it seems like the Brian Jonestown Massacre is new to the scene given how active they are. Through it all, they’ve remained consistent and fresh, so if you like what they do, you’ll surely appreciate this acoustic rendition of a fan favorite.
Call Me If You Get Lost: The Real Estate Sale – Tyler, the Creator
Remember that line from the Godfather III when Michael says, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull be back in”? That’s most of the hip-hop community with Tyler, the Creator right now. Just as we were getting ready for a new era, he decided to drop a handful of unreleased tracks from the Call Me If You Get Lost sessions. And these aren’t just throwaway cuts either … not even close.
the record – boygenius
The supergroup of all supergroups has put out their first LP and the hipsters are projected to be rejoicing all week. To be fair, they have every reason to — Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus are back with the highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s boygenius EP, so this is actually massive.
